Province and municipality sign agreement to improve Houtribweg
Lelystad municipality and Flevoland province have signed a cooperation agreement agreeing to modify Houtribweg (N307) in the coming years. These adjustments, such as converting roundabouts into intersections with traffic lights, aim to improve the flow of traffic to and from the A6 now and in the future. The measures are necessary because of the city's expected growth.
The Flevokust Haven business park in the north of Lelystad is developing rapidly. The port has been in operation for several years and a lot of construction will take place at the inner dike business park in the coming period. This, together with the growth of the city gives an expected increase in traffic over the N307, a major access road from and to the A6.
Planned adjustments to N307
To properly assess what the traffic development will be between now and 2040, several studies have been conducted. These have shown which measures are needed. These include five adjustments to the N307 on the stretch between Zuigerplasdreef and the A6:
- The removal of the narrowing between Zuigerplasdreef and IJsselmeerdijk. This will create a full left turn lane and a straight through lane between the NS marshalling yard entrance and the intersection;
- The construction of a free exit (right turn) from the IJsselmeerdijk to Houtribweg;
- replacing the roundabout at the eastern slip road from the A6 with an intersection with traffic lights;
- Optimising the roundabout at the western slip road of the A6 for additional traffic capacity and
- Replacing the roundabout on Houtribweg/Binnenhavenweg with an intersection with traffic lights.
Work will start after the summer and will be carried out in phases. Each adaptation has its own schedule; in total, the work will take until 2026.
Flevokust Haven, a multimodal business park
Flevokust Haven is a multimodal business park with a container terminal where transhipment of goods is possible. Both import and export of goods to and from major (sea) ports take place here. The business park has large (XXL) plots, where companies such as BESTSELLER, JYSK and BOL will settle in the coming years. This will boost the Lelystad and Flevoland economy and employment.
