The new distribution centre, to be built next to the temporary distribution centre at Flevokust Haven, promises to be a fully-fledged state-of-the-art facility. Construction is being led by main contractor Willy Naessens Netherlands in collaboration with construction company Vrolijk and started last summer.

Festive column

The start of construction work was heralded on Tuesday 5 November with the installation of a celebratory column. The column was attached by representatives of JYSK and Willy Naessens Netherlands, together with the mayor of Lelystad, Mieke Baltus and alderman Dennis Grimbergen. More than a hundred invited guests, including all employees of the temporary distribution centre, were present to celebrate this important step.

"This is really a milestone we have all been looking forward to. We are now seeing the first contours of what will be a state-of-the-art distribution centre. This is not only an important moment in construction, but also a highlight for everyone involved in this project. I am proud of the team and the cooperation with our partners," says Rob Deinum, Project & Technical Manager of JYSK.

The new distribution centre will have two high bays (high-bay warehouses) with a total of 166,000 pallet locations, served by 21 cranes. There will also be 32 inbound and 105 outbound loading docks.

"This is truly a milestone that we have all been looking forward to, " he said.

Sustainable design

The Danish home shopping chain aims to achieve the highest level of international sustainability certification LEED. The site will feature green spaces and water features for rainwater harvesting, while the office will have a roof garden and the lower parts of the building will have green roofs. Solar panels will generate part of the required electricity.

JYSK will supply shops in the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK and Ireland from its new distribution centre in Lelystad. Online orders will also soon be shipped directly from the new warehouse, significantly reducing delivery times for customers.

JYSK expects construction to be completed during 2026. The new distribution centre in Lelystad will employ more than 250 people.
