Sustainable and ultramodern distribution centre

Danish fashion company BESTSELLER has started construction of its largest logistics centre in Europe. The 155,000-square-metre Logistics Centre West (LCW) in Lelystad is the largest investment in the company's history.

Socially engaged business creates valuable jobs

The symbolic first shovel in the ground was celebrated on 27 January 2025 by BESTSELLER employees and developer AAA United, together with key partners and local representatives. Attendees included Henning Larsen (architecture), Ramboll (engineering and project management), KNAPP (logistics automation) and Bouwbedrijf van de Ven, the main contractor. Mayor Mieke Baltus and councillor Dennis Grimbergen were also present. "We are proud to count BESTSELLER among our Lelystad companies. A special family business that contributes in a positive way to our city. We already know BESTSELLER as a socially involved company. The company's arrival is good for Lelystad's economy and will bring valuable jobs to the city: from technical specialists, management and support positions to logistics workers," said alderman Dennis Grimbergen.

BESTSELLER bets on sustainable design

The ambitious project is an important step in making BESTSELLER's logistics processes more sustainable and automated. For example, the new logistics centre will be built entirely of solid wood, meeting the highest global standards for design and efficiency. The green roof will help cool the facility, while innovative wall systems made of straw provide additional insulation. LCW's site covers 300,000 square metres, of which more than two-thirds will be set aside for natural areas such as wetlands, forests and heathlands, thus contributing to the region's biodiversity. The first phase of construction also includes the installation of at least 30,000 square metres of solar panels, contributing to the sustainability of operations.

BESTSELLER aims to achieve 'Outstanding' BREEAM certification for LCW, one of the leading international standards for sustainable construction. In collaboration with KNAPP, the centre will also be equipped with the latest automation technologies. LCW will have a storage capacity of up to 1,400,000 boxes and 3,500,000 pieces per week, supported by 1,400 robots that optimise order processing.

Employment and regional economic impulse

The new centre will be home to more than 600 employees. BESTSELLER expects that the centre will not only improve BESTSELLER's logistical efficiency, but also give a major economic boost to the Flevoland region.
