Additional measures to combat illegal street racing
The Municipal Executive presented a proposal to the city council on Tuesday 10 December to combat illegal street racing at Flevokust Haven business park. The measures involve closing roads at the business park with fences and barriers in the evenings and weekends. It is an extension of existing measures, such as targeted enforcement, the deployment of a special cross team and placing fences around a company. The measures are aimed at preventing dangerous street races, which not only cause nuisance but also endanger the safety of both participants and bystanders. The proposal is now before the council, after which there is still room to submit a view.
Traffic measures
Illegal street racing regularly takes place at Flevokust Haven business park, where asphalted construction roads have been constructed for construction traffic and business accessibility. This leads to considerable inconvenience and danger. In the proposal, the college stresses that this approach is important to improve liveability and safety in the area. With the proposed road closures, the municipality hopes to put an end to street races and nuisance for local residents and businesses.
Safe livable city
Mayor Mieke Baltus: "Lelystad remains committed to a safe and liveable city. This is done both enforcing and preventively." The effectiveness of the measures will be monitored.
